Nepal to amend Constitution to accommodate Madhesis

Kathmandu, Dec 21: In a bid to break the four months-long political logjam, the Nepal government has decided to amend the new Constitution to address two key demands of agitating Madhesis regarding proportiol representation and constituency delimitation. India has welcomed the move. The Nepal cabinet which met last night also agreed to set up a political mechanism to recommend solutions to disputes over the proposed provincial boundaries within three months of its formation. The agitating Madhes-based parties have been demanding scrapping of the seven-province model proposed in the new Constitution, adopted on September 20 this year, which they allege parcels out ancestral land in a way that politically margilizes them by reducing their representation.
