NGT asks Centre to form new panel

Guwahati, April 18: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday directed the Central government to constitute a new three-member expert committee to study the cumulative downstream project of the 2,000-MW Lower Subansiri Hydel Project which has been mired in a controversy for its possible impact on ecology in the region. The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the Assam Public Works (APW) had filed a case at the NGT, putting forth their objections to the earlier three-member committee constituted by the government for the same purpose.
