Niranjan Hojai elected new NCHAC CEM

Haflong, Oct 24: Former Dimasa rebel Niranjan Hojai was on Saturday elected as the new Chief Executive Member of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council.

Hojai is an elected council member from Diyungbra constituency.

Chairman of the council Ngamrothang Hmar declared Niranjan Hojai as the 21st CEM of the eleventh NCHAC after he secured twenty four votes. The Congress candidate could mage only three votes. The voting process was conducted through show of hands.

The NCHAC comprises of 28 elected and two nomited members.

With the defection of nine Congress members and one independent member, the BJP emerged as the largest party in the house. The Governor then directed a special session to elect the CEM of NCHAC.

Former CEM Debojeet Thaosen and former EM Debo Prasad Hojai were absent in today's session.

Meanwhile, some elected members, including Kulendra Daulagupu, Denis Teron, Laljoshua Biate, Devojit Bathari, Samuel Changsan and nomited member Tushar Kanti Deb besides former CEM Debojeet Thaosen have resigned from the Congress party.
