GUWAHATI, March 30: The Assam government on Monday told the House that all measures have been taken to complete the process of updating the tiol Register of Citizens (NRC) smoothly, but there are doubts that a section is trying to create hurdles in the NRC update for vested interests.

AIUDF MLAs raised different questions on the NRC update issue in the Assembly on Monday.

In his reply, Parliamentary Affairs minister Rockybul Hussain said, “The State government has taken all possible measures to update the NRC within time limit and without errors, but a section is trying to create hurdles in the process and make it more complicated. For the NRC update, there is no place for politics and everybody should cooperate.”

“In the NRC update process, some minor mistakes may occur. If somebody points those out, we will rectify the mistakes. But one should not deliberately create confusion over the NRC update,” Hussain added.

The Parliamentary Affairs minister also made it clear that no mes of illegal Bangladeshis would be included in the NRC and no mes of Indians would be excluded. “The government’s stand on the NRC update is very clear. We will update it correctly,” he said.

Supporting Hussain on the issue, AGP MLA Padma Hazarika said, “No confusion should be created over the issue. The main thing is that no mes of illegal foreigners are included in the NRC.”
