GUWAHATI: A notification issued on Friday by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on relaxations of COVID-19 lockdown has thrown the small businessmen of the State into confusion as to open or not to open shops. However, the State government has made it clear that there won’t be any relaxation of the lockdown in the State till April 27.

On this issue, State Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna said, “More relaxations like opening of shops, beauty parlours, etc during the ongoing lockdown are yet to be decided by the Government of Assam. The decision in this regard will be taken only on April 27.”

According to official sources, the State Cabinet will meet on April 27 to take its decision on the MHA’s notification regarding opening of shops. Sources said that the State government is not in a hurry to open all small shops and business establishments since grocery shops, vegetable shops etc are already open in the State. The government wants to wait till April 27 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a video conferencing with the Chief Ministers. The Assam Cabinet, according to sources, is going to meet and take the decision on the MHA’s notification only after the video conferencing by the Prime Minister.
