BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, April 20: Raising a conspiracy angle in the ongoing update of the tiol Register of Citizens (NRC) for Assam, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has pointed fingers at some bureaucrats for leaving no stone unturned to brand a section of Indian Muslim population in the State as illegal Bangladeshis. The party has also decided to move the Supreme Court on this issue.

Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, AIUDF president Badaruddin Ajmal said, “We have received specific information about some officials harassing a section of Indian Muslim population in the State in the me of NRC update. This is a conspiracy perpetrated by a section of officials. We have to take legal recourse to fight it.”

Ajmal said that AIUDF members will soon meet Union Home minister Rajth Singh and Chief Election Commissioner S sim Zaidi. The AIUDF’s decision to move the apex court on the NRC update issue now threatens to create another roadblock.

NRC State coorditor Prateek Hazela recently said that some forces in the State are not in favour of NRC update due to vested interests. Hazela has pointed out that NRC update is a long-standing demand of the people of Assam. The NRC State coorditor has also sought the cooperation of all sections of people and organizations for NRC update work in the State.

It may be mentioned here that the NRC update work is currently being held in the State under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
