NRC update process on fast track

GUWAHATI, May 27: The process of distribution of NRC forms will very soon be started all over the State and 84 lakh forms have been sent to all the district and sub-divisiol headquarters of the State. This was informed by Prateek Hazela, State coorditor, NRC on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters here, Hazela said, “House to house distribution of NRC forms will be started all over the State after 6/7 days. The last date of submission of filled-in NRC forms is July 31.” Hazela said the last date of submission of filled-in NRC forms would also be mentioned in the NRC forms which would also be available online.  Kamrup (M) DC M Angamuthu said, “We are fully prepared for the NRC update. We have received the NRC forms from the government. We have started distribution of NRC forms among the households in Chandrapur Revenue Circle as a pilot project. After getting permission, we will distribute the forms in rest of the district.”

It may be mentioned that 2,500 NRC Sewa Kendras were set up all over the State, where people will have to submit their filled-in NRC forms. In November this year, the draft NRC will be published and on January 31, 2016, the fil NRC will be published.  The 1951 NRC is based on the 1951 census containing mes of 64 lakh citizens. The decision to update the 1951 NRC was taken at a tripartite meeting held between the Central government, the Assam government and the AASU on May 5, 2005 in New Delhi. The present NRC update exercise is being held in the State under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
