NRC update work a tiol duty, AASU tells employees

Guwahati, Nov 23: The All Assam Students Union today told State government employees that the NRC update work is a "tiol duty," and urged those involve in the exercise to give utmost priority to it.

The issue was discussed at a meeting between the students' body and the Sodou Asom Karmachari Parishad. The AASU delegation was led by Sammujal Bhattacharya, president Dipanka Kumar th and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi. The employees association was representated by Basav Kalita and gen Das.

"Currently, verification work of the NRC applications is going on. The employees involved in the exercise should treat the work as a tiol duty. They should do it with utmost priority and sincerity," the leaders of both the organizations resolved.

"It is an opportunity for the people to build a secure Assam and protect the identity of its indigenous people," they stated. Both the organizations also appealed to the district administrations to take measures to ensure that the NRC is error-free and that the work is completed in time. The AASU reiterated that it will not allow mes of Bangladeshi migrants who came to Assam after 1971 to be included in the NRC.

The students' body also renewed its demand to the Central government to revoke the controversial notification regularizing stay of minority refugees from Bangladesh and Pakistan.
