OC held for plotting Rangiya robbery

Rangiya, Oct 26: The officer-in-charge of Rangiya police station Bhupen Chandra Das was on Sunday night arrested on charges of plotting a daylight robbery on NH 31 from an ATM cash refill vehicle.

On October 20 last, miscreants had waylaid a vehicle carrying cash to an Axis Bank ATM in Baihata Chariali and had looted Rs 19 lakh from it. The cash refill vehicle belonged to CMS Info Services Pvt Ltd.

Earlier, police had arrested Axis bank employee Taizuddin Ahmed, driver Prasur Ali and CMS Info Services security officer Pawan Barman who were in the cash refill vehicle when the robbery took place near Maranja.

Based on the confessions of the trio, police on Saturday had caught one Iftiqar Saikia, the owner of the WagonR vehicle which the miscreants used for the crime.

Further investigations revealed that Rangiya police station OC BC Das was the main conspirator and the plan to loot the cash was made at a highway dhaba . The OC, who was arrested last night, was today produced before the sub divisiol judicial magistrate who remanded him to 14 days' judicial custody.

Kamrup superintendent of police Indrani Barua said four more people were involved in the crime and hunt is on to b them.

Police is yet to recover the looted cash.
