OIL faces workers' wrath

OUR BUREAU

DULIAJAN/ GUWAHATI, August 17: The OIL Workers Association today staged demonstrations at the PSU's main administration building, the Industrial Gate, Civil Engineering department, Research and Development Office and at other production sectors, demanding key numbers, medical facilities and wages for additiol work hours.

The workers alleged that the magement has not provided key numbers - which ensure service security - to many workers. "Many of our colleagues who had been serving since ten/fifteen years were laid off, and in their place fresh people were engaged at lower wages," the agitating workers claimed.

The demonstration was staged for six hours today, preventing officials and employees from attending their work, until magement representatives assured to address their demands.

There are some 250 workers registered under the association. The workers have threatened to renew their agitation if the magement fails to fulfill their demands soon.

OIL has been suffering heavy losses due to frequent strikes resorted to by the workers who have been allegedly deprived of due benefits.
