On Day 1, Sonowal reviews NRC work

Guwahati, May 25: According top priority to his agenda of things, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal today visited the office of the State Coorditor of NRC and took stock of the progress of updating the tiol Register of Citizens.

On his first day after taking the charge as Chief Minister, Sonowal exhorted that the State government would extend all possible assistance to the exercise of updating the NRC. State Coorditor of NRC Prateek Hajela apprised the Chief Minister of various steps that the State has put in motion for the exercise.

Sonowal also reiterated his government's commitment to give a comprehensive and flawless NRC, assuring Hazela of all help from the government.

Besides giving importance to early completion of the exercise, Sonowal asked the officials to ensure that the NRC is "error-free and clean". "Not a single Bangladeshi's me should be in the NRC and no indigenous citizen should be left out. If required, more officials should be engaged in the work," Sonowal was quoted as saying during the meeting.

Chief Secretary Vinod Kumar Pipersenia, Additiol Chief Secretary TY Das, Commissioner and Secretary (Home) LS Changsan were present during Chief Minister's visit.
