Phani Bhushan alleges Rs 4,000 crore tax evasion by distilleries

Guwahati, June 15: AGP legislator Phani Bhushan Choudhury has written a letter to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal seeking an inquiry into the alleged Rs 4,000 crore revenue loss incurred by the State government due to tax evasion by some bonded warehouses and distilleries in the State.

The Bongaigaon MLA also alleged that among the 12 warehouses and distilleries, 10 are owned by one person. The irregularities were committed in the garb of bond-to-bond transfer and fake permits.

Meanwhile, Excise minister Parimal Suklabaidya has said he has received allegations of malpractices by a section of the department’s officers.

“We will probe all the allegations. No guilty officer will go scot-free,” he said.
