Policemen turn looters!

DIMORIA, June 10: Men in uniform, who are supposed to control crimes, turning crimils is enough an incident that predicts doom for any society. And this has happened in Guwahati Metropolitan district.

On June 3 at 7.30 pm, Rs 25 lakh was looted from the employees of Shivam Ispat Company at Patarkuchi in the Sopur area by a six-member gang, all of whom were in police uniform. The company had to lodge a case (158/15) at Sopur police station under Section 397. Sopur police was investigating the case with the help of the crime investigation branch of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate and rounded up as many as 12 people, including six police personnel, yesterday. All the 12 are in Guwahati Central Jail.

The six police personnel, according to sources, are all Assam Police black commandos. They are Binod Bordoloi, Achinta Das, Dhruva Tamuli, Mithu Das, Pankaj Brahma and Himangshu Sarma. The other six comprise CRPF jawan Samarjit Kalita, three drivers of Shivam Ispat Company, a man driving police vehicles and a civilian. The police recovered Rs 9.12 lakh from their possession.

The people of Dimoria are a worried lot as they have lost their faith on police personnel who are on duty in the area.

According to police sources, more people were involved in the looting. Investigation is on. The police are yet to disclose details of the looting incident.
