Polls for 79 Civic bodies to be held after Bodoland Territorial Council elections

GUWAHATI: Polls for the 79 civic bodies are to be held after the Bodoland Territorial Council elections. In this regard, the Assam State Election Commission has started the preliminary exercise.

Since the elections to the BTC are slated in April this year, the Commission is planning to conduct the State civic body elections after the elections in the BTAD (Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District) areas. According to sources, the polls for the Municipal Boards and town Committees are likely to be conducted during April-May this year. All these civic bodies have already completed their five-year terms. According to earlier notification of the State Election Commission, the preliminary/draft electoral rolls were to be published today. Now, it has been deferred. The new date will be announced later.
