Raax celebrations begin across State

GUWAHATI, Nov 14: From Majuli to lbari, people have begun celebrating the Raax Leela of Lord Krish with traditiol fervor and devotion. In some places, Raax Leela celebrations commenced on Sunday itself, while more places joined in today.

Majuli is the lone place in Assam where the Raax is celebrated through bhaos ected by the devout. For the past several centuries, it has been the tradition of the people of this river island to pay mass obeisance to Lord Krish during this time of the year.

During the Raax festival, Majuli becomes a veritable place for pilgrimage. Tourists from various countries and across the country flock Majuli to witness this festival. The most remarkable feature of Majuli is its colourful mosaic of diverse ethnicity. In the island, the seat of Vaishvism, the monotheistic philosophy is propagated through drama, music and dance.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal will visit Majuli to witness Raax. In the river island, Raax is being performed at 59 places. Plays, depicting different stages of Lord Krish’s life, are performed at night and continue till dawn, during the festival.  The Raax has also  begun in lbari and Palashbari of the State from Monday, where idols of Krish and Radha are being worshipped. Several mobile theaters have chosen lbari to stage their plays during this time. The festival in Palashbari was iugurated by Jiba Das, president of Antarjatik Krish Bhavmmrito Sangha.

Raax festival is also being organized at places like Howli, Pathsala, Mirza and many areas near the city.
