Rape, suicide in city

GUWAHATI, March 7: Cases of one rape, another attempt to rape and suicide of a rape victim were reported in and around the city on Saturday.  Police on Saturday rescued a girl (17 years), who was picked up by three youths on Friday night from the Bhangagarh area, from the house no. 21 at Kamakhya gar.  Police sources said that the girl was raped by those three youths who had taken her to a rented accomodation on Friday night, where one of them live. The Bhangagarh Police registered a case (no.44/15) in this regard. The three accused have been identified as Sukumar Kalita, Dhanmani Saikia and Debojit Bora, who were also arrested by the police.

In another case at Pandu’s BBC Colony, a tutor, identified as Akhim Kr Deb, was beaten up by the local people on charges of attempt to rape of a class nine girl student. Later the local people handed over the tutor to police. A case (no. 192/15) has been registered in this regard.

Another class seven girl student, who was raped by one Uddhab Paul on March 3 at Sopur’s Kolongpar area, committed suicide on Saturday. Sources said that the rapist had been absconding since then.
