Guwahati, April 27: Dr Purujit Choudhury, an associate professor of surgery at the Gauhati Medical College has been conferred the tion's highest academic degree DSc (Doctor of Science) in surgical fraternity by Gauhati University.

Dr Choudhury claimed that he is reportedly the first surgeon in India who has been awarded this prestigious and the highest academic surgical degree and the second surgeon in Asia after Dr S T Fan from Chi and 5th in the world.

The Executive Council of University conferred the degree to Dr Choudhury for his research on "A Prospective Clinical Alysis of Carcinoma of Pancreaticobiliary System (extra hepatic) and its Magement".

Dr Purujit was doing his research work since September, 2008.

The Gauhati University had nomited Dr Nobuyasu Kano from Japan and Dr Patta Radhakrish from Cheni as exterl examiners for the screening. His research work on HPB surgery was also recommended and constantly monitored by six intertiol faculties.  The exterls reported that the thesis and research work of Dr Purujit contain both old and most recent concepts in the field of pancreaticobiliary cancer which definitely has a positive message for modern surgery.
