Guwahati, May 2: Men in khaki occupying the hot seat in city police stations and outposts are in public glare with some cops indulging in irregularities and law-breaking. On Saturday, sleuths of the Vigilance and Anti-corruption department arrested the in-charge (IC) of Birubari police outpost on charging of taking bribe.

Sources said a trap was laid after IC Indreshwar Pathak demanded money from a victim. Vigilance and Anti-corruption personnel accompanied the victim today and caught the IC red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 15,000.

Pathak was earlier the IC of Amingaon outpost and was transferred after several allegations of irregularities there.

Over the last few weeks, several OCs of city police stations have faced departmental action on various charges.

The Noonmati OC Himangshu Das was closed to reserve after a custodial death in the police station lock-up.

The Jalukbari IC M Hussain was suspended after some crimils made good their escape from the police outpost.

Official sources said that a case has been lodged against the OC of Basistha police station on charges of land-grabbing. It is alleged that Basistha OC Dondo Sarma has acquired a plot of land in Deepor Beel. This had come to light during an eviction drive carried out by the district administration recently.
