Rohingyas Rally To Prevent Repatriation, Unite In Bangladesh

AGARTALA: After snubbing the second initiative of the Bangladesh government to repatriate them into Bangladesh, the over 11 lakh Rohingya refugees are now uniting to prevent any such attempt until their citizenship right is restored and all their land and other properties are returned or compensation is given.

Reports from across the border said that lakhs of refugees, in a significant move on Sunday, gathered on the three hills and adjoining grounds of Kutupalanag Madhuchera refugee camp of Ukhia in Bangladesh, and warned that if any attempt is made to repatriate them without restoring their citizenship it will be prevented at any cost.

The gathering was organized at the aegis of the recently formed ‘Rohingya Society for Human Rights’. Their president Muhibullaha, general secretary Sayadullaha, Nur Hakim and women leader Hamida Begam said that if they were to return they will go together. “Any attempt to force us will be prevented at any cost,” they said.

The refugee leaders expressed disgust over the fact that “world leaders are coming to see the refugees but none is taking any positive step to ensure our return to our own country.”

A large number of people gathered and supported the leaders by shouting and raising their hands. The leaders expressed their gratitude towards Bangladesh for providing them shelter.

The authorities were very much alert and a large number of Army and other security forces like the Bangladesh Police, Border Guard Bangladesh and Ansar Bahini jawans were guarding the area.
