Samujjal to close AASU chapter

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 22: The All Assam Students Union (AASU) advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjee has decided to retire from the students’ body, ending a long association of more than three decades.  The decision of Bhattacharjee has come on the eve of AASU’s 16th conference, which will begin from Monday at Dudhnoi.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Bhattacharjee denied speculations that some top AASU leaders may join the BJP.   On Saturday, State BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacherjee had hinted at the possibility that some top leaders of the AASU may join the saffron party.

“The BJP is trying to sow confusion among the people about the AASU before its 16th conference. It is not true and completely baseless,” he added.  The State BJP president must refrain from making such false statements, Bhattacharjee warned.  The AASU advisor however said that he will continue to serve the indigenous people of the State without joining active politics.
