Save-Dimoria and close-ACC Block slogans rend Sopur air

From our Correspondent

DIMORIA, Sept 23: The save-Dimoria cry rent the air in the Sopur area today when around 300 activists of the Amri Karbi Students’ Union (AKSU) and five other Amri Karbi organizations demonstrated in front of Superlight ACC Block today. The protestors demanded immediate closure of  Superlight ACC Block for, what they said, polluting the air in the area.

The plant is located at Sorutari near Sopur. AKSU president Hareswar Ronghang said: “The Block has an area of 22 bigha that has been illegally procured. The daag and patta numbers shown against the plot are not of the plot which Superlight ACC Block has its plant. This apart, the plant is notorious for air pollution in the Dimoria area.”

The authorities of the plant, however, denied the allegations levelled against them by the students’ body. They said that their plant does not pollute the air.

The students’ body demanded of the authority of the Superlight ACC Block to stop production for time being till the disputed issues are sorted out. The students’ body has cautioned Superlight ACC Block that if they defy their plea, they would resort to intensify their agitation in the days ahead.

It is worth mentioning here that Dimoria has been the victim of air pollution caused by a number of industries that have sprung up in the area.
