SC to take up NRC pleas today

By Our Staff Reporter
Guwahati, July 20: The Supreme Court is likely to take up on Tuesday a bunch of petitions filed by different organizations, including the AASU and APW, and the Assam government on the NRC update process in the State. The State government had sought changes in the modalities, urging the apex court to consider the 2014 electoral rolls as an additiol document to prove one's citizenship. The AGP, however, has opposed any changes in the modalities and insisted that the cut-off date for identifying illegal migrants is clearly mentioned in the Assam Accord as March 25, 1971. The AGP has also urged the court to ensure that no indigenous person is left out from the NRC.
