Schemes to benefit students & teachers in a massive way: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: A number of major schemes are set to be implemented in government schools and colleges with a view to helping teachers and students in a massive way. State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the schemes will be implemented within six months. These schemes are as follows:

(i) Now on, school uniform for students from Class I-VIII will be purchased by school management committees which will get Rs 450 crore before March.

(ii) For the first time, the students of Class IX and X will also be given uniforms.

(iii) The 5,800 contractual teachers of high schools will get all benefits on a par with regular teachers.

(iv) The around-11,000 TET-pool teachers under the SSA will get all benefits on a par with regular teachers.

(v) The around 32,000 TET teachers under the SSA will be given all benefits on a par with regular teachers.

(vi) College principals will be authorized to directly appoint teachers to fill up the vacant posts in their institutions.

(vii) Around 9,600 primary teachers will be appointed on a regular basis, and the advertisement for 6,000 other teachers will be published soon.

(viii) Around 4993 LP schools will be provincialized leading the regularization of posts of around 13,360 teachers.

(ix) Around 620 high schools will be provincialized leading to the regularization of jobs of 4,800 teaching and non-teaching staff.

(x) Around 30 new colleges will be provincialized benefiting around 900 faculties, besides regularizing 768 college teachers who were left out earlier.

(xi) Around 6,000 elementary teachers will be appointed from the latest TET.

(xii) Around 12,000 irregular and illegally appointed teachers are in Assam. There problems will be solved by August 15 this year.

(xiii) Rs 962 crore will be released to school authorities for the development of school infrastructure that came to light during the last Gunatsav.

(xiv) Mid-day meals will be restored with the school authorities.

(xv) The government is to re-examine the transfer and posting of teachers done in the past one-and-a-half years and take measures.
