Six lakh households to get toilets

Guwahati, July 4: In a bid to make the State defecation-free, Assam government will construct six lakh household toilets for which an amount of Rs 860 crore. In addition, the government will provide Rs. 500 per household as incentive money for those who install the toilet under the ongoing programme. The government will ensure the availability of sanitation facilities to all people and through Solid Liquid Waste Magement (SLWM) scheme 300 Gaon Panchayats will be covered during this fincial year. Further, construction of 270 Community Sanitation Complexes (CSC’s) and repair of public toilets in government offices will be taken up, an official release said. Development of 123 old toilet blocks of 29 bus stations under MASA will also be carried out.
