Sonowal files papers, promises to work for Majuli's protection

44 nomitions filed till Wednesday

Guwahati/ Jorhat, March 16: BJP's chief ministerial candidate Sarbanda Sonowal, who is contesting from Majuli, today filed his nomition papers.

Sonowal filed two sets of nomition papers and handed them over to Returning Officer rsingh Pawar, who is also the sub-divisiol officer (civil) of Majuli subdivision in Jorhat district.

Sonowal was accompanied by BJP's Assam in-charge Mahendra Singh, Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli, spokesperson Bijon Mahajan and Bhuban Gam.

Later, Sonowal attended a public rally at the Majuli Gormur mini-stadium which was thronged by thousands of AGP-BJP supporters. Sonowal assured the people that after the BJP comes to power, his topmost priority would be to save the riverine island from flood and erosion. He said he would work for the people, with the people and with the blessings of Xatradhikars.

A total of 44 nomitions have been filed till Wednesday, including 42 for the first phase of elections slated for April 4.
