Speaker may be shown the door

GUWAHATI, May 9: Speaker Prab Kumar Gogoi, who has been involved in a face-off with senior party leaders, might be removed from the post, sources said. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who met senior party leaders in New Delhi, including Sonia Gandhi, returned today and is understood to have got the nod for filling the four vacant berths in his cabinet. Sources said Minister Prati Phukan might replace Prab Kumar Gogoi as the new Speaker, while legislator Jamaluddin Ahmed might be her deputy. Deputy Speaker Bhimanda Tanti is likely to get a berth in the Gogoi ministry. The other three berths would go to Durlav Chamua, Rekibuddin Ahmed and Rajendra Prasad Singh.
