ST status to six communities: AKRSU to stage protest in Jantar Mantar today

From our Correspondent

Bongaigaon, February 28:  “All Koch-Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) under the banner of Six Communities Mahasabha will observe a three-hour long protest along with a mundan programme on Monday at Jantar Mantar in Delhi,” said Biswajit Ray, advisor of AKRSU on Sunday. He said that this protest would be carried out by activists of Six Communities Mahasabha for the demand of ST categorization of the six communities.

Ray said that they had received a letter from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, in response to the memorandum sent to the Prime Minister on November 24, 2015. “In this letter they stated that as the Register General of India had rejected three times this proposal (prior to 2002 and twice after 2002), so no new comment has been given this time also. This letter has proved that the Modi government’s promise of granting ST status to Koch Rajbongshi community was totally a lie. The pre-election alliance of BJP with BPF, which was always against ST categorization of the six communities, has also proved the flattery of the Modi government,” he said.

“Actually in this alliance, the BPF had given a condition to BJP that ST categorization of six communities should not be granted. And fulfilling BPF’s demand, Modi denied us ST status. But Koch- Rajbongshi people will never forgive the BJP. We will give our reply to BJP through our votes in the upcoming assembly election,” Ray said.

The All Assam Koch- Rajbongshi Yuba Chatra Sanmilali has also condemned this role of the Modi government and announced to stage a protest in front of the Governor’s residence on March 2.
