Stepfather rapes minor girl, arrested in city

GUWAHATI, Oct 17: In yet another shocking incident of moral degradation, a man landed in police lock-up on Saturday for raping his minor stepdaughter. The man identified as Swapan Sheel, a resident of Lal Ganesh area in the city, origilly hails from Siliguri in West Bengal. It has been alleged that the girl was sexually abused by the accused since a long time, but on Saturday, neighbours caught him red-handed and turned him over to the police. The victim's mother works as a daily wager whereas the accused is a barber by profession. The accused was taking advantage of the mother's absence and abusing his step daughter.  Meanwhile, the mother of the victim has alleged that she was aware of the crime taking place but dared not speak out. "I knew about the matter but could not protest as he threatened to leave me and throw me out of the house," she alleged.
