Supreme Court Should Review Update: AGP President Atul Bora

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: “The people of Assam have been expecting an error-free NRC (National Register of Citizens) but today the people of Assam and the AGP are not at all convinced with the final NRC,” said Atul Bora, president of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) while addressing the media here on Saturday.

He further stated, “We are not satisfied with the very less number of people who have been excluded from the final NRC. So, there is a ground for the Supreme Court to again review the NRC updation process.”

He added that “though development work in the State was hampered as a result of about 52,000 government employees involved in the process yet the people were expecting a lot from an error-free NRC.”

Pointing out that “the beginning has been made but a lot remains to be accomplished with respect to the NRC”, the AGP chief added, “Definitely some discrepancies appear to have cropped up somewhere during the NRC updation process.”

However, Bora also assured, “The AGP will extend legal aid to the genuine Indians who have been left out of the NRC.”
