Suspect answer scripts to be scanned: DGP

GUWAHATI, Dec 6: Widening its probe into the cash-for-jobs scam in the Assam Public Service Commission, the police is now gearing up to get seized answer scripts verified by the Government Examiner for Questioned Documents (GEQD).

The investigations have revealed some suspicious handwriting and other discrepancies in these answer scripts of various APSC examitions.

“During our investigation, we seized answer scripts of 4-5 candidates. The handwritings in these scripts are suspicious. So we will get these scripts examined by GEQD to find out whether the hadnwritings are genuine or not,” Assam Police DGP Mukesh Sahay told The Sentinel today.

Sahay also said that investigation is going in the right direction. “We will go by law and as per evidence,” he said.

On the other hand, police have sent some digital evidences, seized during the investigation, to Gujarat Forensic Laboratory for verification. Some other seized digital evidences will be sent to Hyderabad Forensic Laboratory, sources said.

Sources further said that police are on the lookout for some other government officials and middlemen in connection with the case, who are currently absconding.

The DGP said that police are examining the documents seized from a lady, whose house was raided recently in connection with the scam.

Police on Sunday raided the residence of actress Nibir Swapm Sivam at Gitagar area of the city and questioned her in connection with the cash-for-job scam for her alleged nexus with arrested APSC member Samedur Rahman.

Police have so far arrested six accused including APSC chairman Rakesh Paul, members Samedur Rahman and Basanta Doley and three others in connection with the case. Sleuths have also seized cash Rs 40 lakh during the course of investigation into case.

Meanwhile,  APSC member Samedur Rahman was on Tuesday produced at the CJM court in Guwahati and was sent to 14-day judicial custody.
