Tea Board Chairman: Gogoi seeks Centre’s intervention

GUWAHATI, Aug 3: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi shot off a letter to the Union MoS (Independent Charge) for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman to take steps for a regular Chairman of Tea Board of India for ensuring long-term success and competitive viability of the Indian Tea Industry, with specific attention to the welfare of workers, growers, packers and consumer needs, a press release stated on Monday. In a letter to Sitharaman Gogoi said, “In order to look after the long term interests of the Tea Industry, posting of a regular Chairman has become a sine qua non. He also sought the intervention of the Union Minister for filling up of a post of an Executive Director in Assam which is lying vacant for the last two years.
