New Delhi/ Guwahati, Dec 14: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Monday mounted an attack on the BJP for allegedly preventing him from entering Barpeta Xatra during his visit to the town on Saturday.

"When I went to Assam, I wanted to visit a temple in Barpeta district. And at the gate, the RSS people stopped me from entering the temple. This is the way the BJP operates," Rahul told reporters in New Delhi.

He said the RSS made women stand at the gate of the Xatra to prevent him from entering the temple. "Who are they to stop me?", he asked.

However, Rahul added that he visited the xatra later on Saturday evening after the RSS workers left.

Citing issues in Kerala and Punjab, Rahul said, "Whatever has happened is not acceptable to people of Kerala, not acceptable to people of Punjab, not acceptable to people of Assam."
