Three-day assembly session from June 1

Guwahati, May 26: The first session of the 14th Assam assembly will be held from June 1. On the first day of the three-day session, the newly elected MLAs of the assembly will take oath, which will be followed by election of the Speaker. On the second day, the Governor will deliver his address. On the same day, the members will take up the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address. The Chief Minister will reply to the motion of thanks on the concluding day. Election of the deputy Speaker and constitution of the six assembly committees, including the Public Accounts Committee, will also be conducted on the last day. Meanwhile, seven-time MLA Phani Bhusan Choudhury has been appointed as pro-tem Speaker. He will conduct the business of the House till the election of a full-fledged Speaker. Sources in the BJP said that two-time MLA from Sorbhog Ranjit Das is the frontrunner for the post of Speaker.
