Three poachers killed near Burhapahar

GAON, August 27:  Three unidentified rhino poachers were killed in a gunbattle with forest guards near Burhapahar Beat Office of Kaziranga tiol Park (KNP) on Tuesday. Two other poachers maged to escape. According to sources, forest officials, acting on information about the presence of poachers in the Burhapahar range, launched a search operation at around 3.30 am on Tuesday morning. The forest guards confronted the gang of poachers in the wee hours. On seeing the guards, the poachers opened fire. The forest guards also opened retaliatory fire, killing three poachers on the spot. Two other poachers were able to flee under the cover of the darkness. Two .303 rifles, empty cartridges of .303 rifle, AK47, 9mm pistol and SLR  were found from the encounter spot.
