tiol Sports Talent Search Scheme

GUWAHATI, June 18: Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbanda Sonowal said that the Government is planning to implement a tiol Sports Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS) from this  year.

Interacting with the editors and senior jourlists of the Guwahati based newspapers, TV Channels and magazines in a programme at Hotel Brahmaputra Ashoka in Guwahati on Wednesday, Sonowal said that the NSTSS scheme, formulated and issued in February last  year, will be implemented this year and is proposed to ‘identify sporting talent’ among students between 8 to 12 years.

“The targets include 1000 talents from rural areas in every State, and nurturing them to eble them to participate in tiol and intertiol sports events,” said the Minister.

Sonowal said that with an aim of improving the country’s prospects in sports, government has  undertaken a slew of schemes to identify talents.

“We have already organised tiol Youth Festival for the first time in Guwahati and Northeast Youth Festival in Majuli. We are also planning to organise Himalayan Sports Festivals in Assam and SAF Games in Guwahati and Shillong,” he said.

The jourlists attended in the programme, suggested the Minister to take steps for setting up a separate football stadium and a Sports Academy in Guwahati.

They also urged Sonowal to take steps for improvement of the stadiums and indoor stadiums of the State which are in pitiable conditions due to negligence of the authorities concerned.

Apart from that the jourlists also suggested the Minister to take steps for promotion of rural sports and bringing back the popularity of football. They also suggested to engage the school dropout children in sports activities.
