Two killed at Doomdooma by suspected ultras

GUWAHATI, Aug 12: Two people were killed and five injured on Friday when militants opened fire at No. 1 Parbatipur village in Doomdooma’s Philobari, sending security agencies into a tizzy. The incident was taken place at around 6:30 pm. The attack is suspected to have been carried out by the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), State Police chief Mukesh Sahay told a news agency. Four to five gunmen entered Philobari village and opened indiscrimite fire at a house in which Rajesh Shah and Kishori Shah were reportedly killed. “Our operations are on to catch the killers,” added Sahay.
On August 5 last, at least 14 people, including one militant were killed, and several injured when suspected militants attacked Balajan Tiniali market in Kokrajhar district. This was the first major insurgency-related strike in the State after the BJP took over the reins of Dispur following a massive win in the Assembly election in May this year. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal has also expressed his serious concern over the Doomdooma attack. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across the State in view of the attack in upper Assam and the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
