Two KNP guards arrested for links with poachers

Guwahati, May 9: Investigations into the ubated poaching in Kaziranga tiol Park has led to arrest of two forest guards who were abetting the crime for monetary gains. Cheniram Kardong, a guard deployed in the Ghorakathi area of the park, and Bharat Murha, the camp-in-charge at Chibe Tapu in Agoratoli range of the park have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Park sources said Kardong was serving at Sonitpur's East Forest division before being brought to Kaziranga on deputation in 2014.

Investigations revealed that Kardong had provided logistic support to poachers entering the park from the North Bank via the Brahmaputra. He was involved in the killing of a rhino in the park in March this year. Alysis of his mobile call list showed he was in constant touch with poaching gangs.

As for Bharat Murha, he had himself buried a rhino at Chibe Tapu after poachers killed it and took away its horn.

Park authorities and police have also arrested two others – Tankesar Das and Boloram Das – from Daini Gaon in Gohpur on charges of having links with poaching gangs.
