Kaziranga, Dec 14: Two poachers were killed in a gunbattle with forest guards in Bagori range of Kaziranga tiol Park in the wee hours today.
The encounter took place near Ajarkathoni forest camp of the range.
Acting on a tip-off regarding presence of poachers, forest guards launched an operation late last night. The poachers opened fire when they were spotted and challenged. They were killd in the subsequent fire fight.
The slain poachers are yet to be identified.
One .303 rifle, an empty cartridge, a silencer and a sharp weapon were seized from the encounter site.
Around 24 poachers have been gunned down in the Unesco World Heritage site this year.The poachers have killed at least 30 rhinos in the State so far.
