Ulfa 'bans' Bhojpuri bodies

By Our Staff Reporter
Guwahati, July 20: Amid the outcry over killing of innocent civilians by the outfit, the Ulfa(I) today imposed a 'ban' on two Bhojpuri organizations. In a statement, Ulfa(I) spokesman Arunudoy Asom asked people to distance themselves from the Sodou Asom Bhojpuri Parishad and Sodou Asom Bhojpuri Yuba Chatra Parishad. "All activities of the two organizations will be treated as illegal," he said. Sodou Asom Bhojpuri Yuba Chatra Parishad president rendra Chouhan, however downplayed the 'ban', questioning its ratiole. "The Ulfa(I) itself is a banned organization. It is not the government. Let them (Ulfa-I) first come to Assam and then impose the ban," he challenged. Earlier, Ulfa(I)'s military chief Paresh Baruah had warned the Hindi-speaking community after they staged anti-Ulfa protests following the killing of a tea businessman and his daughter at Pengeree in Tinsukia district last week.
