Candidature to 'secret killings mastermind'

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 15: Having promised a clean and transparent government to the people if voted to power, the BJP is now on a sticky wicket with several controversial aspirants maging to grab party tickets.

Soon after announcement of party candidates, the BJP had to deal with angry grassroots workers in constituency after constituency. But this time, it is facing the wrath of the rebel outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) led by Paresh Baruah — for giving party candidature to controversial SULFA leader Bhaskar Sarma, who the ULFA-I alleges is the mastermind behind the secret killings that haunted the State from 1998 to 2001.

In a statement to The Sentinel on Tuesday slamming the BJP for giving candidature to Bhaskar Sarma from Margherita, ULFA-I’s Assistant Publicity Secretary Arunudoy Asom cautioned the people to distance themselves from Sarma. The ULFA-I leader also termed him a ‘secret killer’ and asked his associates to stay away from him and the BJP.

The BJP is also facing flak for giving candidature to the likes of former MLA and SULFA leader Kushal Duwori from Thowra and controversial businessman Jitu Goswami from Samaguri against Congress strongman Rakibul Hussain.
