Varsities asked to rejig syllabi, incorporate skill development modules

Guwahati, June 12: The Assam Education department has asked registrars of all State universities to restructure the syllabi of under-graduate and post graduate courses in sync with the new government's vision document, by incorporating components of skill development, vocatiol and professiol courses.

"In the vision document of the present government, skill development, vocatiol and professiol courses are proposed to be incorporated as essential component of college and university syllabi. You are therefore requested to kindly place the matter before the respective authority for consideration to notify the existing under graduate and post graduate syllabi by incorporating skill development, vocatiol and professiol courses," Higher Education director P Jidung said in a letter to all university registrars.

The Education department has also sought certain information from the universities and colleges, including number of girl students residing at a distance of more than 15 km from their institutions, number of hostel seats and rate of monthly hostel dues and plan & estimate for renovation of hostels.

The department has asked all university and college heads to furnish the information by June 30.

"The vision document of the new government has proposed some innovative schemes in the field of education, to implement which we need the information," an official in the Education department said.

The BJP, during the poll campaign, had promised scooties to girl students living at a distance of more than 15 km from their institution.
