Voters in Assam up by 3.25 per cent

Guwahati, Jan 11: The number of eligible voters in Assam has risen by 3.25 per cent, according to the fil voters' list published today.

Altogether 1,98,66,496 people will be eligible to exercise their franchise in the 2016 assembly elections. The number of male voters is 1,02,72,287 and female voters 95,94,209. The net increase in the number of voters over the previous electoral roll is 6,45,038.

In the previous election, the number of voters was 1,92,21,458.

Margherita constituency recorded the highest increase in the number of voters at 8.2 per cent, followed by Dhekiajuli with 5.51 per cent, Rangapara 5.39 per cent, Sootea and Majbat 5.32 per cent each, South Salmara 5.1 per cent and Katlichara 5 per cent.

Howraghat and Tinsukia LACs registered the lowest increase in the number of voters with 1.26 and 1.28 per cent rise respectively.

No legislative assembly constituency has registered a decrease in the number of eligible voters.

The increase in the number of voters in the four constituencies of Kamrup metro is less than the State average.

The district-wise increase in the number of voters is: Karimganj 3.06 per cent, Hailakandi 3.74 per cent, Cachar 3.02 per cent, Dima Hasao 1.89 per cent, Karbi Anglong 2.62 per cent, Dhubri 3.82 per cent, Kokrajhar 3.37 per cent, Chirang 4.67 per cent, Bongaigaon 3.35 per cent, Goalpara 2.43 per cent, Barpeta 3.50 per cent, Kamrup 2.70 per cent, Kamrup (M) 2.57 per cent, lbari 3.11 per cent, Baksa 3.37 per cent, Udalguri 4.66 per cent, Darrang 3.37 per cent, Sonitpur 4.21 per cent, Morigaon 2.64 per cent, gaon 3.66 per cent, Golaghat 4.15 per cent, Jorhat 2.70 per cent, Sibsagar 2.34 per cent, Lakhimpur 3.85 per cent, Dhemaji 4.42 per cent, Dibrugarh 3.41 per cent and Tinsukia 3.67 per cent.
