Will extend all support to new government: Modi

Guwahati, May 24: Heaping praises on new Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, Prime Minister rendra Modi promised of relentless efforts to ensure that Assam catches up with the rest of the country in terms of development.  Addressing the swearing-in function, Modi said the new government will carry forward the good legacies of the past governments and plug all loopholes to ensure accelerated development.

"Our job doesn't end at voting. For development it is important the people work with the government together," Modi said.

The prime minister promised that the Central government "will always try to stay ahead, even if by a step, than the Assam government" for the development of the State.

"The Central government would give full support to the State government in developing Assam. "I am sure that Sarbanda ji will leave no stone unturned for the development of Assam," he said.

Modi thanked the "people of Assam for giving Sarbanda and his ministers an opportunity to serve" the State.

The Prime Minister said his government "believes in competitive cooperative federalism and wants to contribute as much to develop states which need help". "Eastern part of India cannot remain away from the development journey," he added.
