’Will not tolerate any political interference’

GUWAHATI, February 2: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Monday said that it would keep its eye on the NRC update process and not tolerate any political interference in the same.

A meeting on the issue was held at the State Secretariat between representatives of 26 organisations, including the AASU and the State government officials.

In the meeting, AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya, its president Sankar Prasad Rai and NRC State coorditor Prateek Hazela among others were present.

While briefing the participating delegates, Hazela told them that all measures were taken to complete the NRC update on time. The AASU told the government officials that the timeframe (January 2016) given by the Supreme Court in regard to the NRC update should be strictly followed.
