Won’t allow even an inch of land to any infiltrator: Ranjeet Kumar Dass

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has already finalized the State Land Policy, and we are determined not to cede even an inch of land to any infiltrator, declared State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass while addressing mediapersons at the PWD Training Centre in Dispur on Thursday. Targeting the Opposition, Dass said, “The previous Congress governments did not do anything to secure land rights for the indigenous people of the State. They did, however, provide pattas to the people dwelling in the sar (riverine) areas. But, they did not think of the indigenous communities like the Misings, the Sonowals, and the Bodos who have been living in these places since the olden times.

“Our new Land Policy is aimed at securing the land rights for all indigenous people. We will issue pattas across the State only to the sons of the soil. And in this regard, we won’t care if anyone protests or commits suicide even in the premises of the State Assembly.”

Alleging that “the Congress party is solely responsible for the illegal infiltration of foreigners into Assam”, Dass added, “Since 1971 — instead of 1951 — was fixed as the cut-off date in the Assam Accord during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi as the Prime Minister, lakhs of Bangladeshis got Indian citizenship without even applying for it.”

Referring to the issue of illegal foreigners’ deportation, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, however, pointed out, “There is some complicacy as the government must abide by the process followed internationally. Moreover, it is time consuming.”

Further alleging that “some vested interests are floating rumours on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)-2019”, he said, “they are trying to mould people’s opinions by falsely implying that foreigners will flock to the State after the CAA is implemented.”

He further stressed, “None of the 42 lakh BJP workers will allow even a single Bangladeshi to enter Assam! There is no need for any genuine Indian to feel apprehensive about the CAA.”
