Guwahati, June 29: Asserting that it will not allow privatization of oil fields in the State, the All Assam Students Union today announced a series of agitations to oppose the Central government's move to lease out 12 small oilfields to private parties.

The AASU will hold a demonstration at Duliajan on July 4, followed by another at zira.

"The oilfields should be developed by either OIL or ONGC. If not, the State government should develop them," AASU president Dipanka Kumar th and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said.

The students' body also smelt a rat in the decision and alleged that some officers of OIL and ONGC are playing into the hands of private firms. "That is why they are claiming that it would not be profitable venture for public sector undertakings," the AASU leaders said.

Reiterating that that the State should have control over its tural resources, the AASU also alleged that due to "wrong decisions" of the previous Congress government, the State has just 10 percent stake at NRL.

"The State government should take decisions in the interests of the State," they added.
