Wrong selection cost Congress dear: Kurmi

By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, July 11: Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi today created a flutter in the Congress camp saying that due to wrong selection of candidates, the party had to lose as many as 25 seats in the recently concluded assembly elections.

The four-time legislator maintained that people like Sarat Saikia should have been given tickets. “Not giving ticket to Saikia cost the party as many as ten seats,” he claimed, adding that “even Ripun Bora’s wife Monika Bora lost because of this reason”.

Kurmi also refused to join 18 Congress MLAs who left for New Delhi today to meet the party high command.

“For us, Rahul Gandhi is a brother and Sonia Gandhi like a mother. We failed in an exam. They should come and speak to us. In any case, I don’t even have the money to buy flight tickets,” Kurmi said.

Meanwhile, the 18 Congress legislators led by Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia today left for the tiol capital where they are likely to meet, besides the party high command, Central ministers and raise various issues concerning the State, including the issue of oilfield privatization.

When asked about reports that legislator Man Singh Rongpi is also readying to join the BJP, Debabrata Saikia feigned ignorance and said, “We asked him to accompany us. He said he is in Bangalore with his family so he won’t be able to join us.”
