GUWAHATI: The State Government will open 1,000 Model Anganwadi kendras on August 14, spending Rs 250 crore from its resources.

Women and Child Welfare Minister Ajanta Neog took stock of the inauguration of the Anganwadi centres from the deputy commissioners concerned. The Model Anganwadi centres are coming up under the 'Sonali Shoishob Bikoshito Axom' scheme, spending Rs 25 lakh each. Assam is the first state to have set up Model Anganwadi centres with its resources.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will inaugurate a Model Anganwadi centre at Bongora in the Kamrup district on August 14. Minister Neog inspected all arrangements at Bongora today.

Assam has around 62,000 Anganwadi centres, 42,000 of which have their complexes. The remaining 20,000 Anganwadi centres are in temporary campuses like schools, libraries, naamghars etc.
