GUWAHATI: Believe it or not, there is a likelihood of more than one lakh eligible candidates getting government jobs in the near future. Incidentally, the present BJP-led State government had also given a pre-poll promise of recruiting 1 lakh candidates within one year in April 2021. As on date, altogether 1,07,149 posts are still vacant in various departments in Assam. This was revealed in the House on the second day of the Budget session on Tuesday.

The reply of GAD (General Administration Department) Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass was with reference to a written question by Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia at the State Assembly session on Tuesday.

Mentionably, this is maiden Budget session during the tenure of the new Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It is worth mentioning that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has already constituted a HLC (High Level Committee) to prepare a road map for filling up the vacant posts. The HLC is led by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog.

The GAD Minister's data provided in the House revealed that among the various departments, the highest number of 50, 465 vacant posts are in Education followed by 20,248 in the Home & Political, and 9,353 in Health & Family Welfare.

The other departmental vacancies are: Environment & Forest (2,918); Irrigation (2,253); Animal Husbandry & Veterinary (2,152); Panchayat & Rural Development (2,137); PWD-Building & National Highways (1,308); Revenue & Disaster Management (1,139); Gauhati Development (1,092); PHE (1,005); Transport (1,001); Handloom & Textiles (988); Agriculture (962); Finance (952); Skill Employment & Entrepreneurship (876);

GAD (830); Secretariat Administration (718); Sports & Youth Welfare (712); Judicial Affairs (678); Social Welfare (666); Cultural Affairs (561); Soil Conservation (526); Industries & Commerce (523); Transformation & Development (522); Excise (459); Social Welfare (371); Welfare of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes (348); Fishery (258); Urban development (191); Tourism (144); Personnel (144); Information & Public Relation (107); Border Area Development (98); Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (95); Printing & Stationery (68);

Labour Welfare (54); Administrative Reforms & Training (50); Power-E (48); Legislative (29); Mines & Minerals (21); 20 each in Welfare & Minority Development and Char Area Development; Science & Technology (11).

Single digit vacancies are in Information & Technology (nine); six each in Border Protection & Development, and in Tea Tribes Welfare; two each in Chief Minister's Secretariat, Public Enterprise, and in Pension & Public Grievances.
