13 cadres of All Adivasi National Liberation Army surrender before Karbi Anglong Police

BOKAJAN: At least 13 cadres of a splinter group of the All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA) surrendered before the Karbi Anglong Police and laid down arms at Bokajan Police Station on Sunday. The arms-laying ceremony was held in the presence of DIG, Central Range, Satyaraj Hazarika, Karbi Anglong SP Pusparaj Singh and top-ranking officials of the Assam Rifles and the CRPF.

The surrendered cadres include self-styled commander Shankar Kurmi, Sumon Gour, Ganga Ram Sahu, Sadmanda Gour, Ajit Pradhan, Manoj Sahu, Hori Gour, Kanakram Gour, Sankar Gour, Bidjaram Lodhi, Hira Gour, Pawan Gour and Kuldeep Nayak. The group deposited a huge cache of arms, including four AK-56 rifles, four pistols, a 6-bore revolver and 36 live ammunition.

The Assam Rifles stated in a release, "With an aim to promote peace and harmony in the region, the Security Forces of Spear Corps have always endeavoured to mainstream the misguided youth."

"Towards this aim, 6 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Spear Corps in conjunction with Assam Police, through their relentless efforts have successfully persuaded the homecoming of 13 active cadres of AANLA, who laid down their arms," the release further read.

Noteworthy is that AANLA had laid down arms in 2012 along with four other Adivasi militant groups in presence of the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati.
